WELCOME TO HUGS & KIDNEYS

Hugs & Kidneys was inspired by the journey of our founders’ daughter, Zola, who was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease at just six years old. After becoming critically ill, she began a challenging journey that included hospitalization, pediatric hemodialysis, a year of nightly peritoneal dialysis at home, multiple surgeries, frequent labs and clinic visits, and constant adjustments to her care. In February 2023, Zola received the gift of a kidney transplant from her mother, Rosie. Through it all—including navigating severe hearing loss—Zola remained vibrant, resilient, and determined. Today, she is thriving, enjoying school, friendships, and the everyday experiences of childhood.
Throughout Zola’s medical journey, their family was surrounded by extraordinary support from relatives, friends, colleagues, healthcare professionals, nonprofit organizations, and even strangers. They created this organization to pay forward the kindness their family received by helping ease burdens, provide practical support, and bring moments of hope and joy to children and families navigating difficult medical journeys. They remain deeply grateful to the many healthcare providers, charitable organizations, community groups, and individuals who supported Zola and helped inspire this mission.
We give special thanks to the following organizations that inspired Hugs & Kidneys: Summerlin Children's Hospital PICU, Davita Pediatric Dialysis Clinic, Children's Nephrology Clinic Las Vegas, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and Pediatric Nephrology Team, Stanford Medical Center, LVMPD Honor Guard, LVMPO Wives, Make-A-Wish Foundation Southern Nevada, Give Kids the World Resort, Vills Bros Academy, Ai'Pono Cafe, and Buckles and Barrels for Bailey.

We founded Hugs & Kidneys to turn the support we received into hope and help for other families.
